Bay City Players Awarded Robert & Mary Nimergood Memorial Arts and Peggy Rowley Music, Arts, and Culture Enrichment Funds of the Bay Area Community Foundation for Encore Youth Program

Bay City Players received $244 from the Robert & Mary Nimergood Memorial Arts and $2,076 from Peggy Rowley Music, Arts, and Culture Enrichment Funds. Bay City Players, Inc. (Players) is a nonprofit volunteer-based community theatre located in the Great Lakes Bay Region with the mission of providing high-quality theatrical experiences for the entertainment, education, and enrichment of the community. Bay City Players is the oldest continually operating theatre in Michigan, currently finishing up with our 104th season.

This year we have launched a new youth program, Encore Youth Theatre, which will occur July 11–August 6, 2022, serving up to 60 student participants and 8-12 student directors. The mission of the program is to inspire the next generation of Bay City Players artists and volunteers. Encore Youth Theatre is open to students in third grade through high school and registration is currently open and the fee is $80 (partial scholarships available). More information is available at baycityplayers.org/youth-programs/ or by calling 989.893.5555.

Robert & Mary Nimergood Memorial Arts and Peggy Rowley Music, Arts, and Culture Enrichment Funds of the Bay Area Community Foundation will help pay for participant make-up kits and a stipend for an assistant facilitator. Due to COVID-19, we no longer supply shared make-up for any of our performers, but instead ask them to purchase a kit (at a cost of $22 each) which will last for a couple of years. To avoid adding an additional financial burden to our youth, the cost of the individual makeup kits will be included in the registration fee. The total cost of 60 make-up kits will be $1,320. The other area for which grant funding will assist is a stipend for an assistant facilitator to provide additional adult supervision and aid the facilitator. The assistant facilitator would be utilized primarily during the weeks of the camp and given a stipend of $1,000.

A special thanks to our grant funders Robert & Mary Nimergood Memorial Arts and Peggy Rowley Music, Arts, and Culture Enrichment Funds of the Bay Area Community Foundation.
