Bay City Players Awarded Rotary Club of Bay City Funds for Encore Youth Program

Bay City Players received $680 from the Bay City Rotary Club Foundation to purchase t-shirts and supplies for the new youth program we are launching this summer. Bay City Players, Inc. (Players) is a nonprofit volunteer-based community theatre located in the Great Lakes Bay Region with the mission of providing high-quality theatrical experiences for the entertainment, education, and enrichment of the community. Bay City Players is the oldest continually operating theatre in Michigan, currently finishing up with our 104th season.

In keeping with our mission to educate and enrich the community, our youth program will provide hands-on educational opportunities for young people to participate in the entire spectrum of theatre related skills. Theatre is a holistic art form, encompassing the obvious skills of performance, but also physical Arts (set painting, costumes, makeup), English language skills (reading and critical analysis), and STEM (set building, lights and sound, and special effects). Participating in theatre helps young people build confidence, form friendships, and is a practical way to learn and apply many important skills that have impact well into adulthood.

Encore Youth Theatre, which will occur July 11–August 6, 2022, serving up to 60 student participants and 8-12 student directors. The mission of the program is to inspire the next generation of Bay City Players artists and volunteers. Encore Youth Theatre is open to students in third grade through high school and registration is currently open and the fee is $80 (partial scholarships available). Students will participate in structured workshops to enhance performing arts skills perform in One Act Plays. High school student directors, supported by experienced mentors, will take the participants through the entire production process, from script selection to the final bows. More information is available at baycityplayers.org/youth-programs/ or by calling 989.893.5555.

A special thanks to our grant funder, Rotary of Bay City for helping support our mission of inspiring the next generation of artist.
