Bay City Players Awarded Grants

How we all miss that buzz in the theater just before the curtain rises! The actors and crew are in place, ready to go after weeks of rehearsal and technical prep. The audience leans forward, ready to see what theatrical magic will happen tonight.

Even though we can’t enjoy that experience, there is still much work going on at Bay City Players: Board and committee meetings on Zoom with tough decisions to make, the building to maintain safely and securely. Without ticket sales, fundraising is our most crucial task now.

Bay City Players is grateful to have received two vital grants that will support us through this experience. Both come from organizations that have frequently supported us in the past.

Bay Area Community Foundation Grant

Bay Area Community Foundation Community Initiative Fund for Nonprofit Operations Support has provided $4500 to help with operational expenses through the end of 2020.

Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs Grants

The Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs (MCACA) awarded BCP a grant of $15,000 for capital improvement in 2021. Players needs to replace two sections of the flat roof and add insulation, a project estimated at $60,000. Even small occasional roof leaks can cause structural damage, damage to building contents, and can create mold and dust which impacts the health and safety of volunteers and audience.

The MCACA has also awarded Bay City Players with $1,825 to help fund Season 103 Reimagined including our summer production of GODSPELL, July 15-18, 2021.

Organizations receiving a MCACA grant award are required to match those funds with other public and private dollars. Bay City Players is matching the grant with private funding and other grant resources. Local support of the project includes our major corporate sponsors: Michigan Sugar Company, Landaal Packaging, and Independent Bank.  Bay City Players also receives significant support from individuals in the community—people like you.

Bay Arts Council Grant

Bay City Players has been awarded $1,500 from the Bay Arts Council to partially fund the Design Computer Technology Project. Bay City Players needs to replace two computers used for Graphic Designing and Sound Design and is currently seeking additional funding to support the project.

Until we can all be together as the curtain opens again, know that our volunteers are hard at work making plans and keeping our organization and facility safe and ready to welcome everyone back!
