Bay City Players and Delta College collaboration. Pirates, peg legs, eye patches, parrots, and plunder. Who could ask for more? Captain Hook and Blackbeard are threats on the high seas, but it’s Long John Silver who sails supreme on the crest of the highest waves in search of treasure island! A tale of danger, adventure, and scary humor on an island that holds more than treasure. One of the greatest young peoples’ stories of all times just waiting for you to share with the family so close to the holidays.

Director

Beth Heyart- Director

Beth is a Professor of Communication at Delta College.  She teaches Public Speaking, Interpersonal Communication, Introduction to Theatre, Theatre History, and Humanities through the Arts.  In addition to teaching, Beth is the Director of Theatre at Delta.  She has been involved in all aspects of productions since 2004. She is in charge of play selection, directing, set design, set painting and budgeting.  In the past, Beth has traveled shows to local schools and has partnered with McAlear-Sawden Elementary School to perform two musicals on the Delta stage.  Beth is pleased to partner with The Bay City Players to bring Treasure Island to life!

Rita Gnida- Assistant Director

Rita has 30+ years of experience in the ballet/dance arena. She has learned, taught, performed, and choreographed just about every kind of dancing imaginable. Rita’s directing experience began back in high school with the Youth program at Bay City Players. Since then, she has taken on various productions as Director or Assistant Director. Most recently, she was Assistant Director/Choreographer for Follies for Players and Assistant Director for The Great Gatsby at Pit and Balcony. She is thrilled to be working on such a unique project with this wonderful cast! Rita sends special thanks to her husband Gus and girls, Emmy, Bella and Lili for their support and love.

Jessica McFarland- Assistant Director

JESSICA MCFARLAND is a part-time director and full-time wife to her husband Rodney and mom to her daughters Avery, Lucy, and Annabelle! She loves everything about theatre!. In her 20 years stage experience highlights include an agoraphobic housewife, a dancing horse, a sneaky island monster, and a singing nun (twice!). Last at Players, she directed BCP’s “LEND ME A TENOR” and “THE SNOW QUEEN,” and is so excited to be a part of bringing this work to the BCP stage for 2022-2023.  This will be her eleventh show directing but her second for Main Stage Bay City Players, having last helmed A Christmas Story. She also writes for Great Lakes Bay Theatre Review, runs programming for Vanishing Elephant Players out of the Historic Masonic Temple, and is active at Our Lady of Peace parish. In her spare time (ha!) she enjoys hiking, photography, and spending time with friends and family.

Jim Stewart- Assistant Director

Jim recently returned to our area and was last seen on stage at Players in The ExoneratedTen November, Almost Maine, Twelve Angry Men, Squabbles, Leading Ladies, Wait Until Dark, and It’s a Wonderful Life Radio Show. Jim is a professional engineer working in Midland.

Ashley Higgins- Student Director

Ashley Higgins is a current student at Saginaw Valley State University. She is majoring in Elementary Education and Special Education. She’s always had a passion for theater and loves to be on stage. She is very excited to have her first opportunity to work behind the scenes as a student director. She’s been involved with Delta Drama since 2017, and is elated to be working with the Bay City Players this Fall!
