“What if I had actually shown up?”

A question the playwright had asked himself when revisiting a time in his life that was, well, not a particularly pleasant time to revisit!

Many of you may know Lewis Black as the intense, angry-faced comedian who often appears to be a few steps away from an emotional meltdown. Lewis Black, the popular comedian who unleashes “colorful” tirades about, well, anything that “gets his goat!” He also pens plays.

Many years ago, Mr. Black had a girlfriend who was adamant that she would never marry. Anyone. Ever. They eventually parted ways. Fast forward and Mr. Black discovers that her mindset has changed, that she is getting married and that her wedding day has arrived…. Just shy of one year since their breakup!

“What if I had shown up on her wedding day?” The proverbial light bulb illuminates and by golly, he now has a ready-made plot for a play!

In writing his play, liberties were taken, of course, but between all the laughs and outrageous moments, it’s ultimately a romantic comedy about the choices we make in our lives. Listen closely and you are certain to recognize the humorous edginess that endears Lewis Black to his vast fan base. However, underneath the banter, you’ll hear the warmth and sincerity of a family that laughs together, banters together and most importantly, loves together!

We hope you will enjoy our portrayal of Lewis Black’s, “One Slight Hitch” … A funny, often absurd and at its core, a heartwarming play. The perfect respite from the brittle temperatures of a Michigan winter!
